This I believe

This I believe can be better than that,

That, sometimes, outshines this, in fact.

Sweet tastes better after salt

Salt tastes best after sour

Sour is always great until it stings

A long day must need deserved rest

While too much rest is mended by a long day

Until I am too sleepy to wake

And too active to find a breath

What I don’t want now

I’ll probably want later

How I seek to feel

Will flow in amounts greater

Fables and proverbs

Have a time and place

Hidden in between layers

Of meaning and space

That ignite them as needed

I think I hate ice cream, but ask me after a perfect meal

I think I hate movies, but ask me after a perfect day

I think I hate blizzards, but ask me in the dead of summer on a stalled subway car

I think I hate being loud, but ask me when there’s something to talk about

Truth. This I believe, but with no proof

There is no singular absolute

This I believe is the only truth

That I fear is my only belief
